Integrating Qt apps into your GNOME desktop

Sometimes there’s just no GNOME application that will satisfy your needs, for example Scribus has no decent GNOME equivalent. After installing Scribus I was baffled by how ugly it looked. But this is partially fixable.

Start up the Synaptic Package Manager and install ‘qt3-qtconfig’, and then run ‘qtconfig’ from the commandline. Click the tune palette button, and make sure you adjust the Base, Background & Button colors to R: 237, G: 233, B: 227. Click OK, and do File, Save and close ‘qtconfig’. If you now restart Scribus you’ll notice it’s still not pretty, but it’s more tolerable now.
Fortunately version 1.3.5 of Scribus will be ported to Qt4 which incorporates the very nice Cleanlooks theme.
