Are Developers Blind?

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I reported a bug against fontconfig, which is completely trivially solvable. But somehow, it’s getting ignored. Ubuntu’s default font rendering is completely unbearable out of the box. So I wonder, do the Ubuntu developers actually start X and look at their screens?
